Link4Food: Connecting Albania’s
Food Supply Chain
A buyer-seller marketplace built for Albania’s agriculture and fishing industries.
The Challenge
Albania’s agriculture and fishing industries run on fragmented, informal supply chains. Farmers and fishermen sell through layers of intermediaries who compress margins on one side and inflate prices on the other. Restaurants, hotels, and retailers struggle to source consistent, traceable supply. Producers lack a direct line to the buyers who actually want what they grow and catch.
Link4Food came to us with a clear vision: a digital marketplace that connects food producers directly to commercial buyers, with no brokers in between. They needed the platform built fast, built right, and built to scale.
What We Built
A fully functional marketplace platform with everything required to run live transactions between producers and buyers from day one.
Core platform A complete buyer-seller marketplace with dual-sided onboarding. Producers list available stock, pricing, and harvest or catch windows. Buyers browse, filter by category and region, and contact sellers directly through the platform.
Database architecture A relational database designed to handle product catalogs, user profiles, inventory updates, order history, and transaction records. Built for the data volumes a national marketplace generates and structured so reporting and analytics layers can be added later without restructuring.
Email infrastructure Transactional and notification email built into every key flow. Account verification, listing confirmations, buyer inquiries, order updates, and password recovery all run through a configured email pipeline. Sellers get notified the moment a buyer engages. Buyers get confirmation the moment they act.
User management Role-based access for producers, buyers, and administrators. Profile management, verification workflows, and admin tools to moderate listings and manage disputes.
Listings and search Category-based product organisation across agriculture and fishing verticals. Search and filtering by product type, location, price, and availability. Image uploads for every listing so buyers see exactly what they are sourcing.
How We Built It
Rapid delivery without cutting corners. We scoped the MVP around the flows that had to work on day one — listing, discovery, contact, transaction — and built each one to production standard rather than prototype standard.
The stack was chosen for speed of development and long-term maintainability. The database schema was modelled around the realities of perishable goods and seasonal supply, not generic e-commerce assumptions. Email flows were configured early so testing covered the full user journey, not just the UI.
The Result
A fully working marketplace platform, live and ready to onboard producers and buyers across Albania’s food supply chain. Link4Food now has the infrastructure to scale from a regional pilot to a national platform without re-engineering the foundation.
